News: Omega’s new grey ceramic Planet Ocean GMT marks first for brand
The Seamaster collection is one of Omega’s most popular lines, so news of another addition to the range makes the ears of any watch enthusiast prick up, and rightly so. This Seamaster Planet Ocean GMT in dark grey ceramic certainly gives us something to talk about.
The 45.5mm case is crafted in lightweight silicon nitride ceramic and marks the first time that silicon nitride has been applied by Omega on such a large scale in a wristwatch. The new Seamaster Planet Ocean also boasts the use of grade five titanium across the bezel, helium escape valve, crown and buckle.
The grey dial—also made of grade five sandblasted titanium—features Arabic numerals at 12, 6 and 9 o’clock for extra legibility and a date window at 3 o’clock. The orange accents add a welcome pop of colour to an otherwise monochrome piece.
Inside, it’s powered by the in-house calibre 8906 with a power reserve of 60 hours and a GMT and timezone functions. The use of titanium extends to the movement, too, where black ceramised grade five titanium is found on the main plate and bridges with decorative laser ablation, giving it an uber-cool look all round.
